Harris County has partnered with PeopleFund to establish a revolving loan fund program, Harris County Opportunity Fund (HCOF), a 5-year pilot lending program to provide low-interest capital for small businesses. The loans distributed by the Fund will fill an existing gap for small business owners seeking capital for their businesses. The overall goal is to improve small businesses’ sustainability and access to capital, thus aligning with Harris County’s Small Business Priority Outcome to “support the formation, survival, and growth of small and micro businesses.”   Under this program, Harris County Opportunity Fund and PeopleFund will provide loans ranging from $5,000 to $250,000 for eligible small businesses through an equitable underwriting process, ensuring minority and/or women-owned enterprises (M/WBEs) improve their access to capital. Additionally, PeopleFund will provide all applicants with access to free technical assistance.

ational ACE, in partnership with Grubhub, is proud to announce the opening of applications for the 2025 Restaurant Accelerator and Community Fund Grant, a program made possible by grant support from the Grubhub Community Fund. From October 1 to October 24, small, independent restaurants across the United States can apply for the chance to join a program designed to spark growth, innovation, and long-term success. Applicants who attend at least three of National ACE’s expert-led virtual Restaurant Accelerator sessions in November will be eligible to receive a $5,000 Community Fund Grant to invest directly in their business.

Many parents and students recognize that leadership plays a vital role in youth development. Leadership is also one of the key qualities considered by universities, especially top-tier institutions, during the admissions process. However, many families are unsure how to help students effectively develop strong leadership skills. To address this need, the University of Houston Asian American Studies Center, in collaboration with the youth nonprofit, Youth Voice for Small Business, is launching the First National Youth Leadership Certificate Program. This initiative is part of the Center’s Global Leadership Studies Initiative and is designed to empower the next generation of changemakers through structured and impactful leadership development.

The Baytown Surface Water Treatment Plant is a 6 MGD treatment plant serving Baytown through the Baytown Area Water Authority. The plant includes rapid mix basin, pulsed bed clarifier, disinfection basin, self backwashing filter, transfer pump station, ground storage tanks, and solids handling facilities. This scope of work will consist of expanding treatment capacity to 12 MGD by mirroring existing treatment processes including both water treatment and solids processing.

The Office of Business Opportunity Solution Center conducts workshops throughout the Houston Community. Some of our workshops are in partnership with SCORE, the Houston Public Library, the UH Small Business Development Center, and other business organizations.
