The National Civics Bee application deadline is Feb. 3
Only 12 days left to apply for the National Civics Bee®—a nationwide competition that empowers the next generation to step into their role as leaders in our democracy. Middle schoolers (grades 6-8) have until Feb. 3 at 11:59 p.m. HST to submit their applications.
Why it matters: Strong communities need informed citizens. When young people understand civics, they grow into engaged neighbors, critical thinkers, and leaders who help strengthen our democracy and our economy.
How it works: Students write a four-question essay proposing solutions to real community challenges. Top finalists compete in regional, state, and national competitions. Winners advance to Washington for the national championship.
By the numbers:
- $100,000 education savings prize for the national champion
- Students from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and American Samoa are eligible to participate
- Free to enter for all public, private, charter, and homeschool students
What we’re saying: “As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, we have a powerful opportunity to reignite civic learning across the country,” said Hilary Crow, vice president of civics.
The bottom line: This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for students to contribute to America’s semiquincentennial moment.
Spread the word: If you know an ambitious student, parent, caregiver, teacher, or community partner who works with middle schoolers, please share this opportunity with them.
