Houston is one of the largest cities in the United States at 665 square miles; we have stray-friendly weather all year, which means year-round breeding that steadily increases the animal population. Houston has a lot of homeless animals in need of a forever family!
BARC is the only shelter in Houston required by law to accept every animal that comes through our doors regardless of breed, temperament, health conditions, or circumstances. BARC works diligently to find these vulnerable animals new homes, but we cannot do it alone. There are many ways you can get involved at BARC and help us make a difference in the lives of shelter pets. Opportunities range from opening your home & fostering a pet in need to volunteering at the shelter to walk dogs, clean, or take photos. BARC is always seeking new rescue partner organizations, sponsors for adoption and wellness events, and critical donations from the public to keep not only our animals healthy, but also support forever families who may made need some help.
