Background
As an international port in the most diverse city in the U.S., Port Houston has a duty to promote diversity, equity and inclusion as a community partner and regional leader. Fairness in contracting among minority- and woman-owned businesses was identified as an opportunity for improvement in the Disparity Study conducted in 2020.

Port Houston is launching Business Equity at Port Houston to encompass the new race- and gender-conscious Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Program as well as the Port’s successful Small Business Program. Introducing opportunities for Small and MWBE firms to do business with Port Houston will honor the diversity of Houston’s business community and create equitable opportunities for all.
