According to the Airports Council International , the Houston airport system is the fourth largest airport system in the United States and the sixth largest in the world. George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is 23 miles north of downtown and is accessible via I-45, Hwy. 59, Hardy Toll Road, and the Sam Houston Toll Road (Beltway 8). With an estimated 40.5 million passengers a year, Bush Intercontinental Airport is the hub to the world's largest airline, United Airlines (which recently merged with Continental Airlines), and is served by a multitude of major airlines offering direct and connecting flights to countless destinations worldwide.
